Well, I actually did take the time to write to Verizon. I hope it didn’t sound all sappy. I entered it in a contact form on their site that limited the amount of characters you could type in (typical Verizon, apparently!). Here is my letter in its entirety, for googlebots to capture and archive forever […]

My Letter to Verizon About the Motorola RAZR V3m Bluetooth Situation

Make Your Own mp3 Ringtones on a Motorola Razr V3m
Mon, July 31 2006 @ 6:23 pm - 4 years, 1 month ago
Wow. I went for a canoe ride this weekend and completely destroyed my old phone. So I had to get a new one today from Verizon and the model that looked best to me was the RAZR V3m, which is Bluetooth enabled, I mean, CRIPPLED. Verizon has basically enabled Bluetooth for use with a headset, […]
Can Apple Make Things TOO Simple?
Sun, July 30 2006 @ 9:42 pm - 4 years, 1 month ago
I’m trying to get together everything I need to complete the sale of my G5 tower on eBay. I’m realizing, that unless I misplaced an instruction book or set up sheet of some kind, that there is no parts list or packing list anywhere in the documentation. C’mon people! I learned that I had to […]

Flash. How about ‘Flush’, as in down the toilet
Fri, July 28 2006 @ 5:35 pm - 4 years, 1 month ago
Man, sometimes I really hate Flash. Like, hatred. More specifically, Actionscript. I don’t have time to monkey with that stuff. I don’t want to be good at Actionscript. I don’t care about it. You only have so much time to master anything at all, and I have trouble enough with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I’ve […]

Kennel Cough
Tue, July 25 2006 @ 12:54 am - 4 years, 1 month ago
Poor Parker. The hacking cough. The lack of sleep (for all of us). The dry heaves, the mucous, the coughing, the guilty look he has as if he was saying “I’m sorry I puked on the rug again”. The meds haven’t really kicked in yet, so I’m sure I’m in for another sleepless night or […]

That sucks that bluetooth connections are disabled on your phone. One good thing about my provider is that pretty much everything is enabled on my v3. Syncing with address book is a breeze. I’d be pretty pissed if I bought a $450+ phone only to have features disabled.

Yeah, I am pretty much ticked off, but at least I got the phone for around $100 (they must really be pushing these things). Considering how large the community of Motorola hackers is, it’s only a matter of weeks before someone comes up with a working method to modify these phones. It’s sad that one has to wait for a diligent basement-dweller to finish a game of Halo to write something that helps you void your warranty, but that’s how it is.
And to think I could have spent time writing a glowing review for Verizon and possibly getting a person or two interested in their services rather than writing a (useless?) email to Customer Service.

I just wanted to say that I got my razr V3m last night and I was much more disspointed to find out it won’t work with a Mac and mp3 files. I am searching the net for a work around and that is how I found your site. Maybe you’ll have some info but I wanted to comment on the OBEX first. Last night I was able to have my Mac Mini (intel) communicate with my razr and isync my iCal and my address book data. Not sure if that constitutes OBEX funtionality, but it seems like it is working for me.

I totally hear you. I bought the V3 only to find out that the OBEX is disabled. I was so ticked off. Have you received a response from Verizon? Damn they suck.
# Tue, August 22 2006 @ 9:36 pm (4 years ago)
No, I never received a response. Didn’t really expect to, either, though. I’m just glad my old phone works. It’s beat up and broken down, but it’s got character.

i just got a v3m today and discovered the same thing. no OBEX >_

I wrote to Verizon support about this issue. Here’s the BS answer I got:
“”"Motorola has disabled the file transfer capabilities of the RAZR at our request. The ability transfer files was disabled not because it physically damages our network but to protect against piracy, in the form of digital files containing music, ring tones, Get It Now Applications, and Wallpaper being distributed illegally. At this time, we have no information as to when or if this will change. We apologize for the inconvenience, as the status has not changed on this issue.”"”

Oh, brother. That response from Verizon is amazing. What if we were talking about cars?
“Chevrolet has modified the accelerator capabilities of the Corvette at our request. The ability go over 70 MPH was disabled not because it physically damages our automobiles but to protect against speeding. At this time, we have no information as to when or if this will change. We apologize for the inconvenience, as the status has not changed on this issue.”
I considered switching from Sprint to Verizon because I’m disappointed with Sprint’s selection of phones. But as a Mac user, I’d like to be able to use iSync and Bluetooth file transfers without having to jump through hoops or pay extra for this “convenience.”
With Sprint’s recent announcement that they will be carrying the RAZR, SLVR, and KRZR, I’ve decided to wait and see what their phones can do. I’d be thrilled if they (Sprint) decided to actually enable some of these great features by default. Keeping my fingers crossed.
